Keep the trains running.

In tough times, people have to make do with what they have—so the local mechanic may do just fine as people keep their old cars running longer, but the new car salesman will suffer. Home Depot won’t sell upscale tools and appliances but will do a nice business as people patch, patch, patch while the local realtor looks for a new line of work.
